"Summer seems the perfect time to perch on the back porch with a virgin piece of wood and a whittling knife.  In my case, all carving is relegated to flat pieces of wood and/or linoleum and started off while perched in front of my computer and Zoomed into Karen Klee-Atlin’s relief printing class. Slowly excavating images by cut and gouge while brushing away piles of chips and trying not to cut your fingers is an uncomplicated, centering and calming embrace of process and material that is wholly satisfying as a creative activity and rewards you for patience and diligence.  The act of relief printing may not in itself be seasonal but it pairs quite happily with sunshine and solitary confinement."
