Usually going to a beerfest means you're just there to drink beer. But the Black is Beautiful festival lets you drink beer and help support Black lives, while raising funds to help fight Police brutality. (Cascade Brewing via Instagram)

The Rose City Rollers host multiple opportunities to get some fun in the sun on eight wheels, and if you don't own those wheels already, the RCR's Skatemobile has you covered with rental skates, helmets, and pads. And when they say you can skate at Oaks Park, they mean all over Oaks Park.

There'll also be a scavenger hunt, and interviews with Hood to Coast notables.

The Yooper's Table Past Event List
After a series of summer dinners that took guests through the varied (and delicious) regions of Italy, Artigiano's latest meal sticks a little closer to home with this feast built around Michigan's upper peninsula, with cuisine influenced by immigrants who settled there from Italy, Finland, Canada, Sweden, Norway, and more.

Big Ruiner Past Event List
Local indie three-piece Big Ruiner hit the Kenton's patio stage in support of their latest Stay Home Not Live EP, created during the quarantine.

Total Recall Past Event List
The Mousetrap is hosting a free movie night on their patio, promising you the unfiltered (or filtered, it's up to you how full-flavored you want this to be) joy of being able to smoke cigarettes and watch 1990's hyperviolent cartoon classic, Total Recall. Trivia precedes the screening, which we're sure will be dotted with people shouting out their favorite Arnie... lines? Grunts? Guttural noises? Whatever it is he does. All of those things, really. Simultaneously. Hey, DID YOU KNOW: He was once the governor of California? America's sixth largest economy was once run by the star of Jingle All the Way. We live in a simulation, btw.

Lisa Mann long ago earned her reputation as one of Portland's best-known blues legends, and she's putting on a show for patrons of the Blue Diamond's outdoor seating.

PDX Prime Past Event List

Cocktail Making w/ McMenamins Past Event List
You might not be able to get yourself a stiff drink at McMenamins as easily as you used to, but that doesn't mean those McMenamins drinks can't still be drunk up: Cocktail specialist Ashley hosts a weekly series of Facebook Live-streams teaching you how to make the perfect mixed drinks you've always wanted to try at the bar.

Adrienne Raphel, Bianca Bosker Past Event List
Crossword fans (and who among us has not had their sanity saved during this pandemic with the help of some quality crosswording?) should definitely sit in for this conversation between Cork Dork author Bianca Bosker and Adrienne Raphel, author of Thinking Inside the Box, a book-length love letter to the reason many people still bother to pick up a newspaper in the 21st century.

SATURDAY, AUG 22

IN-PERSON EVENTS

Portland Culture Convention Past Event List
Conventions aren't just for people who like superheroes and elves, even though it might seem that way (especially this weekend). In fact, there's a convention popping up in Portland, at Revolution Hall, that's about celebrating real-life heroes right here, with performances from local artists in our thriving hip-hop scene, shining a spotlight on the city's Black entrepreneurs and business owners, and aiming to uplift the Black community. Performers include Sol.Luna, Black Pioneers, and support from Shrista Tyree, Rip City Heroes, and more.

Black is Beautiful Festival Past Event List
SE 31st gets shut down for the day to make all the room necessary for as many people as possible to safely celebrate the Black is Beautiful Festival, a program spearheaded by Weathered Souls Brewing in San Antonio, TX. They challenged the brewing community to step up and raise awareness and money for Black lives, and the Northwest has definitely responded, with breweries including Gigantic, Threshold, Rogue, StormBreaker, Cascade, and many more pouring new Black is Beautiful beers. $16 gets you four pours, additional pours for another $4, and 100 percent of all proceeds will go towards local foundations pushing for police reform, defense funds, and Don't Shoot PDX.

The Mistons Past Event List
High energy indie rock 'n' roll from this two-man band featuring Sean Croghan and Micah Kassell.

LIVESTREAMED EVENTS

DC Fandome Past Event List
Since Comic-Cons had basically just become a place to herd members of fandom for the express purpose of showing them trailers and commercials for upcoming movies, shows, toys (oh and comics sure comics too) it makes a ton of sense that the modern Con experience could move online pretty easily (see: San Diego Comic-Con @ Home) and that major studios would just hold their own cons. AND SO: DC Fandome, a 24-hour, free, virtual convention for fans of DC Comics and all the live-action, animated, video game (oh and comics sure comics too) entertainment based on their venerable characters.

Trunk Show: Sea Change Fibers Past Event List

9th Annual James Bond Soiree Past Event List
Damn, wasn't there supposed to be a new Bond movie—Daniel Craig's last one, even—out this spring? Oh, right. Pandemic. Well, Bond fans still have reason to celebrate, and not just because the movie might still come out later this year. The Reckless + Lioness Birthday Bash Past Event List

Sasami, Slut Island Past Event List
Last year, self-described “synth queen” (and former Cherry Glazerr keyboardist) Sasami released her self-titled solo debut—10 simmering, meticulously arranged indie rock songs that she has said are about “Everyone I fucked and who fucked me last year.” It’s got an understated power and some seriously great synth solos (see “I Was a Window”).

KT Tunstall Past Event List
Scottish singer/songwriter KT Tunstall headlines this special pay-per-view concert, recorded at, and streaming from, the Lobero Theater in Santa Barbara.

Nick Delffs, Phone Voice Past Event List
Nick Delffs cut his teeth as the principal songwriter in the Shaky Hands, one of the best and buzziest Portland indie rock bands of the last decade. Nick Delffs may have lost his throaty bleat and jittery sensibilities with youth, but his newer songs are every bit as tuneful and adventurous.

SUNDAY, AUG 23

Dogs are welcome, and masks are (of course) required.

Blues in the Backyard Past Event List
The poster says to "Get your live music fix while you can" and this certainly is a great way to do that, with some of the city's best blues musicians putting in work in the Blue Diamond's backyard, including Lady Kat, Myrtle Brown, Sonny Hess, Kevin Selfe, and Rae Gordon.

Sunday Jazz with Ron Steen Past Event List
Bandleader and drummer Ron Steen, known as the Godfather of Jazz Jams in Portland, brings his style and grace to Clyde's "Music Under the Marquee" series.

LIVESTREAMED EVENTS

Myq Kaplan Past Event List
Many comedians are clever, but none are quite so clever as Myq Kaplan: a brainy, tiny man who wears three-piece suits and is perhaps our greatest human exemplar of nerdy charm. LIVESTREAMED CONCERTS

Björk Past Event List
The word "icon" gets thrown around a lot, to the point where it's basically meaningless (thanks, Twitter) but there are some people for whom the term still legitimately applies, and Björk is one of those. This livestream concert features the Icelandic superstar backed by the Hamrahlið Choir and organist Bergur Þórisson. Proceeds from the show will benefit multiple women's charities worldwide, and the performance is aimed at honoring the Black Lives Matter movement, as well as those who have suffered in the Coronavirus Crisis.
