Beanpole
Set in Leningrad in the months after the conflict, Beanpole focuses on the friendship of two former soldiers (Viktoria Miroshnichenko and Vasilisa Perelygina) as they grasp for some semblance of normalcy amid the rubble and rationing. It’s a bleak portrait, but its narrow scope and the lived-in performances keep the film from sinking under its own weight.
