What better way is there to spend a three-day weekend than a lovely little jaunt to Oregon’s bountiful wine country? Every year, wineries and tasting rooms all over the Willamette Valley open their doors for open houses and special events throughout Memorial Day weekend. To that end, we’ve plucked out five juicy happenings for you (and your crew) to swirl, sip, and savor in style. For more ideas, check out our food and drink guide.
Memorial Day Weekend Open House
Join this self-described micro-winery as they coincidentally celebrate their fifth anniversary. Boss Hawg’s BBQ Express will have their food cart onsite from Saturday through Monday, serving up pulled pork, beef brisket, dilly tater salad, coleslaw, and more. If barbecue doesn’t appeal to you, picnic goodies will be available for purchase in the tasting room, and guests are also welcome to bring their own picnic food. Live music will be playing from Bluebird’s front porch as visitors take in their spectacular view of the valley.
Bluebird Hill Cellars (Friday-Monday)
I Love Gamay
I Love Gamay is Oregon’s annual celebration of the “under-the-radar” wine varietal. As part of this year’s festivities, Cooper Mountain is hosting this pop-up event, giving oenophiles the opportunity to taste five Oregon-made Gamay Noirs. A snack from Farmer and the Beast will accompany pours from Hundred Suns, Ridgecrest Winery, Division Wine Co, and Hazelfern. A limited-edition wine glass by glassmaker Jason Parker of Esque Studio will also be available for purchase. Reservations can be made on the vineyard’s website.

Memorial Weekend Sip & Stroll

The winery is offering flights that include small bite pairings, with pizza also available for those after a substantial meal. Tigers of Youth, a Salem alt-pop outfit, will play on Saturday, and folk duo Dead Lee will perform on Sunday. Call for reservations.
