Lonnie Holley and Guests Past Event Like List
Beloved musician Lonnie Holley, sometimes called "the cosmic Stevie Wonder," is known for genre-defying music that ranges from soul to jazz to rock to gospel. For the first night of his two-night stint, Holley will be backed by pedal steel guitarist Barry Walker and later by Ethiopian jazz group The Tezeta Band. On the second, he will be backed by percussionist Papi Fimbres, rock 'n' rollers Peter Buck & Scott McCaughey, and art-punk aficionado LOX. Expect surprises on both nights—this presentation is part one of the After The End Of The World Festival, which features Mississippi Records' favorite music acts co-presented with films and projections on the big screen.

CST and Boy Harsher present THE RUNNER
Past Event Like List Dark wave duo Boy Harsher's new album The Runner (Original Soundtrack) drops towards the end of the month and with it comes a companion horror film/meta "documentary" that "explores lust, compulsion, and the horrific tendencies of seduction." Vocalist Jae Matthews and producer Augustus Miller met in film school, so you can expect the film's visuals to pair seamlessly with the non-traditional soundtrack, which will "balance cinematic instrumentals with pop songs."

Beyond Van Gogh Immersive Experience
Past Event Like List Modeled after similar installations that have toured Europe in recent years (although it is not the same as the one featured in Emily in Paris, in case you were wondering) and comprising a 360-degree floor-to-ceiling rig that unfetters paintings like "The Starry Night" from the borders of their original canvases (who can forget that "Wheatfield with Crows" allegory in Greg Araki's Mysterious Skin?!), this traveling exhibit leaves viewers to literally bask in their light. Beyond the main room, smaller galleries will provide context on the artist's life alongside "larger than life" re-creations. There's also a virtual reality component at the end of the show (for which you can get front-of-line access if you purchase VIP tickets), a 10-minute journey billed as "a day in the life of the artist" that's designed to make you feel as if you're strolling alongside Vincent as he discovers scenes that would inspire eight of his seminal paintings.

Actor Lester Purry and director Lou Bellamy, founder of Penumbra Theatre (the largest African-American theater in the country), return to the Portland Playhouse to tell the story of Thurgood Marshall, the first Black justice to serve on the Supreme Court. The one-man show spans Marshall's 58-year career, from his beginnings as a civil rights lawyer arguing Brown v. Board of Education to his SCOTUS appointment.
