OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS

The “Carfree Keller” project will be implemented downtown this fall, turning a few blocks adjacent to the Keller Auditorium into a European-style car-free plaza. The pop-up is a collaborative project between Portland State University and the urbanist group Better Block PDX.

After transitioning to a first-run theater model to boost ticket sales, Academy Theater has resumed their
repertory offerings, with a full slate of classic flick screenings like Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Wings of Desire, and Down by Law planned throughout the summer.

Did you know that beloved Happy Valley music festival
Pickathon also includes a literary lineup? This year, award-winning storytellers and poets like “gastro explorer” Cecily Wong, Oregon Poet Laureate Anis Mojgani, and Oregon Book Award winner Omar El Akkad will hit the festival’s new Windmill Stage for readings and book signings.

Prior to his death in 2021, CoHo Theatre's producing artistic director, Philip Cuomo, negotiated terms to purchase the company’s NW Raleigh performing arts venue to safeguard it from encroaching expansions in Slabtown. Now, three companies—
CoHo Productions, Third Rail Repertory Theatre, and Portland Experimental Theatre Ensemble—have joined heads to form the Cuomo Theatre Collaborative, working in tandem with Philip Cuomo Family Foundation to preserve the NW Raleigh space under collective leadership.
