This Week in Portland Event News: The Killers, Typhoon, and More

Ticket and Info Alerts for the Week of July 19
July 22, 2021

🎵 Somebody told me. The Killers are coming. To the Moda Center. In late August of next year... It's not confidential, I've got potential. 🎵 Tickets on sale tomorrow!

(Robert Ascroft)

If it’s true that great art is born out of sadness and suffering, one of the few pluses of the 2020 lockdown is that many of our favorite musicians cranked out new albums with the convergence of newfound free time and pent-up emotion. As we continue taking steps towards “normalcy,” those musicians are gearing up to hit the road. We’ve got your early warnings rolling all the way into 2022, including The Killers rocking Moda Center with one of the catchiest songs of the 21st century and Portland indie-rock darlings Typhoon filling Revolution Hall with their rich harmonies.

The Here For Portland initiative is hosting a packed roster of events this weekend as an official welcome back to the downtown area. The lineup of free, all-ages activities includes a sing-along with Pink Martini, roller skating with the Rose City Rollers, the grand opening of the Ankeny West food carts, and much more.

One of Portland’s favorite second-run movie theaters, the Academy Theater, reopened with full capacity on Friday, July 16. Catch newer flicks like Judas and the Black Messiah and Nomadland, or special screenings of Ingmar Bergman’s world-cinema classic The Seventh Seal (1957) or concert doc Monterey Pop (1968).

On July 29, SE Hawthorne’s Cinemagic will reopen with The Green Knight. The theater briefly reopened with limited capacity in May, but then shut again after new owners bought the theater and closed it down to make improvements. BLAIR STENVICK
