Cozy up with some baked goods and coffee at the newly opened Denizens Cafe this weekend. (Denizens Cafe)
Good news abounds in Beaverton this week, as Magna Kusina chef Carlo Lamagna debuts his new lechonería Magna Kubo and Pip's Original Doughnuts & Chai plans a location next door. Portland proper isn't doing too shabby either, as the local food scene celebrates receiving more James Beard Awards than any other city in this year's competition. Read on for all of that and more tasty updates, from ilani BBQ Fest to a Filipino take on the McRib. For more ideas, check out our food and drink guide.

Denizens Cafe List
The crew behind Rocky Butte Coffee Roasters soft opened this cafe in Ben & Esther's recently closed Roseway location List on June 1. The new spot features breakfast sandwiches, rice bowls, mac and cheese, gooey fondue, and coffee made with Rocky Butte Coffee Roasters beans.

Magna Kubo List
This is not a drill: Magna Kusina List chef Carlo Lamagna opened his highly anticipated second restaurant Magna Kubo, inspired by the lechonerías of the Philippines, on Southwest Broadway Street in Beaverton on June 3. Visitors can look forward to plenty of shatteringly crispy rotisserie meats, including chicken, pork belly, Snake River Farms wagyu brisket, and a rotation of seafood, as well as sides like sinigang chicken wings, pancit, pinakbet, and lumpia.

L'Orange List
Les Caves List owner Jeff Vejr and former Holdfast Dining List chef Joel Stocks are teaming up to open this Western Mediterranean-inspired, wine-centric restaurant in the charming space formerly home to Fenrir List and Willow List . The business is expected to start serving dreamy dishes like mussels and clams in tarragon butter and cured anchovies with shaved fennel and apricot-orange jam by the end of the month.

Pip's Original Doughnuts & Chai List
Portland's beloved institution Pip's Original List , known for its spicy chai and miniature doughnuts, plans to open a location in downtown Beaverton on July 1, right next to the newly opened Magna Kubo List location. (We foresee the two being a killer lunch-and-dessert combo.)

Shake Shack List and Tanaka List
The wildly popular burger chain Shake Shack (which just debuted its first Portland proper location List  last month) and the downtown Japanese bakery and cafe Tanaka List are both set to launch outposts in the Bridgeport Village List shopping center in Tigard sometime this fall.

Holy Goat Social Club List
This neighborhood bar, which has been on hiatus since catching on fire last June, revealed via Instagram this week that it is closing permanently at its current location. The announcement read, "We cannot express enough how much we appreciate your support and contributions to our business and the local community. We have truly cherished being a part of this community and will miss it dearly." Bridgetown Bites reports that the owners of neighboring Mojos Sushi List plan to open a restaurant called Pho Bar 405 in the space.

Portlanders win James Beard Awards
It appears that the James Beard Awards took the Mercury's advice to say nice things about Portland. The local food scene reigned victorious at the prestigious award ceremony in Chicago earlier this week, taking home more combined honors than any other city in the competition. Gregory Gourdet's Kann List was awarded the title of Best New Restaurant, Vince Nguyen of Berlu List was crowned Best New Chef: Northwest and Pacific, and the Burgerville Workers Union won an Emerging Leadership Award. In the media cateogries, the winners were Surong chef Hannah Che's book The Vegan Chinese Kitchen for Vegetable-Focused Cooking, Ricardo and Katy Osuna's Copper & Heat podcast episode “Abalone: The Cost of Consumption” for Audio Programming, the YouTube video "Restaurant Takeover ft. Matta" by All the Homies Network for Reality or Competition Visual Media, and Brooke Jackson-Glidden of Eater Portland for the Jonathan Gold Local Voice Award.
