NEW OPENINGS AND RETURNS

Jackie's List
Last week, the team behind the Pearl District bar Two Wrongs List  opened a new bar called Jackie's in the former Century Bar List space. Rather than a traditional "sports bar," the owners refer to Jackie's a "bar with sports," focusing on casual, group-friendly drinks and snacks in a lively setting. Bartender Tony Contreras developed the bar program, which includes draft cocktails like watermelon hibiscus margaritas as well as low- and no-proof drinks, while Grand Cru Hospitality devised a food menu with crowd-pleasers like birria brisket nachos, hot wings, barbecue pork sliders, and shrimp po' boys. The bar also features a rooftop patio.

Mi Sazón List
This new cart serving tostadas and aguas frescas recently opened in a pod in Brentwood-Darlington. Owner José G. acquired a sense of cooking savvy from watching his Mexican mother in the kitchen and later fell in love with the cocktail world while working as a bartender at the Gustav's location inside Portland International Airport, then began to deliver his food and drinks after finding himself out of a job in 2020. His tostadas come with fillings like chorizo con papas, picadillo, ceviche, and tinga de pollo, while his agua fresca flavors include melon, horchata, strawberry, pineapple, guava, hibiscus, and more.

FUTURE OPENINGS

Baon Kainan List
Married couple Ethan and Geri Leung, the team behind the Seattle-based Filipino pop-up Baon Kainan, will open a cart at Metalwood Salvage List on August 7. The Leungs have previously hosted some pop-ups at the Seattle restaurant Ben Paris (where Ethan worked as a sous chef) and at Matta List . The spot's tagline is "not your tita's cooking," which reflects Ethan and Geri's experiences as Filipino-Americans growing up predominantly in the United States, melding traditional Filipino cooking with influences from American fast food and snacks as well as the cuisines of personally significant places like Italy, South Carolina, and Hawaii.

CLOSURES

Chicken and Guns List
The longtime chicken and potato cart known for its Cartlandia location List is closing its outpost in the CORE pod List , which opened less than a year ago, due to not being able to hire enough employees to run two locations. The Cartlandia location will remain open.

Jas Kitchen List
This Hainanese chicken cart, which opened List inside the CORE pod in February, has also called it quits, citing "internal issues."

SushiLove List
The vegan and gluten-free sushi spot announced on Instagram this week that it will close its brick-and-mortar location but that its cart List will remain open and that it will be running more pop-ups. Co-owner Diandra Totte wrote, "We're exhausted. When the pandemic hit, the two of us were running two locations on our own for about 3 months. We worked long days and didn't have days off. One year later...we're kinda doing the same thing with an additional 4-5 employees. We miss having a life outside of sushilove. Miss having thoughts outside of sushilove for that matter. And on top of that, things are slipping...We don't want you, our super supportive and loving community, to deal with that. We want to give more time and attention to our employees to make sure they're taken care of (you'll still see all those friendly faces, everyone is being moved to the truck!) And we want more time for our friends, family, and our own happiness."
