Culinary Breeding Network Variety Showcase Past Event List
Curious about what goes into planning and growing the produce that ends up on your plate? Visit this public variety showcase from the Culinary Breeding Network, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Plant breeders, seed growers, farmers, chefs, bakers, distillers, retailers, distributors, and inquisitive consumers will come together for an evening of education, discussion, and tastings. Try new and in-development vegetable, fruit, and grain cultivars, share your thoughts, and engage with the food system. As Culinary Breeding Network director Lane Selman puts it: "At this event, the curtain is pulled back. Attendees are introduced to the wizards making critical decisions before our farmers plant their seeds. It’s a unique chance to network, build community and meet the plant breeders creating flavorful varieties for organic farmers." If that's not enough to pique your interest, consider that some of the city's leading culinary stars, including Akadi, Berlu, Comedor Lilia, Coquine, Creole Me Up, Gado Gado, Grassa, Han Oak/Jeju, Kachka, Lauretta Jean's, Lovely's Fifty Fifty, Sweedeedee, and Yaowarat, will be present to share their creations.

Khushbu Shah in Conversation with Erin DeJesus Past Event List
With her debut cookbook Amrikan: 125 Recipes From the Indian Diaspora, Food & Wine writer and editor Khushbu Shah asks the question, “What is Indian food in America?” She delves into the answer not only with irresistible-sounding recipes I'm eager to add into my rotation, like saag paneer lasagna, achari paneer pizza, spinach tadka dal with rice, panipuri mojitos, and masala chai Basque cheesecake, but also with images and essays that meditate on the connection between food and identity. As Shah told the New York Times in a 2019 interview, "Food is undeniably intersectional. It’s impossible — it’s irresponsible — to deny it." She'll chat about the release with Eater executive editor Erin DeJesus.
