In this week's batch of food news, the Portland culinary scene welcomes some inventive flavor combos, from pho-braised brisket pizza at Hapa Pizza's new Beaverton restaurant to longanisa burgers and adobo poutine at the new Filipino fast food cart Makulít. NEW OPENINGS AND RETURNS

2NW5 List
The Hoxton List 's Basement Bar is back in action under the moniker "2NW5," a new speakeasy-inspired concept. The menu includes elegant bar snacks like oysters, arancini, steak tartare, and "green eggs and ham" (deviled eggs with harissa and bacon) alongside classic cocktails like Sidecars and Jungle Birds.

Hapa Pizza List
The Beaverton Farmers Market Past Event List stall Hapa Pizza, known for its Neapolitan-style pizza topped with ingredients like pho-braised brisket or char siu, debuted its downtown Beaverton brick-and-mortar last Friday, March 10. In addition to pizza, the new spot serves POG (passion orange guava) juice, Vietnamese coffee, Thai iced tea, and Okinawan sweet potato haupia bars.

Ladda Thai House List
This new Thai spot soft opened in the former Ranger Station List space last Thursday, March 9, serving specialties like khao soi, larb, fried coconut zucchini, roasted duck curry, and Bangkok-style fried chicken.

Makulít List
XLB List alums Mike Bautista and Xrysto Castillo teamed up to launch this food cart, which opened in the Lil’ America List food pod on March 3 and blends Filipino cuisine with American fast food. The result? Delightful mashups like longanisa burgers, lumpia served in fry boxes, and poutine slathered with adobo gravy.

Cache Cache List
The ChefStable restaurant group is set to open this raw bar helmed by St. Jack List chef de cuisine John Denison in the second week of April. Potential menu items include uni bagels, raw scallops, poached prawns, and half-shell oysters.

Pastry chef Marisa Kroes, who runs the plant-based patisserie business Orange & Blossoms, plans to debut a brick-and-mortar cafe and bakeshop this fall.

Boba Milk List
The popular Hosford-Abernethy bubble tea destination Boba Milk, known for its cold-brewed teas made without artificial flavors or powders, announced yesterday that it is being taken over by a new concept called Soul-cie-tea. Its last day of business before the transition will be Friday, March 24.

Menya Hokusei List
On Sunday, owner Ryan Callahan announced on Instagram that he was closing this ramen joint due to a series of difficulties, including financial difficulties and temporarily closing after he was stabbed in November. He added, "This is not the end of Menya Hokusei. It’s goodbye for now but we will be doing kits, pop-ups, and much more cool stuff in the future. Also, we’re moving into production/sales of craft ramen ingredients for other ramen shops that are interested."

Magna Kusina plans to expand to Denver
Chef-owner Carlo Lamagna of the nationally acclaimed Filipino restaurant Magna Kusina List revealed this week that he plans to open a restaurant called Magna Kainan in Denver's RiNO district in early 2024. In the meantime, Lamagna will launch Magna Kubo List , a lechonería, in Beaverton later this spring.

Past Event List Tuck into some corned beef and cabbage, sip Guinness and Kilbeggan Irish whiskey, and take in live Irish music and performances from bagpipers and Irish dancers. A portion of net proceeds will be donated to the Children's Cancer Association.

World Foods' Ninth Birthday Party Past Event List
The Pearl District's family-owned specialty grocer World Foods is throwing a bash to mark its ninth trip around the sun. They'll go all out with appearances from brewers, vendors, and winemakers, plus sidewalk grilling, cocktail specials, and other festivities.

At this free talk, Joyce Chung, the founder and self-proclaimed "shopkeep" of the multicultural snack emporium Goodies Snack Shop, will share her story of moving to Portland in 2021 and how she ultimately found her community.

Seattle's wildly popular plant-based creamery Frankie & Jo's, known for unique flavors like salty caramel ash and chocolate tahini "supercookie," is making a stop in Portland at Tea Bar (NW Northrup on March 18, and SE Division on March 19). Tea Bar will offer a "matchagatto" made with Frankie & Jo's ice cream, while Frankie & Jo's will serve up their limited-edition March matcha mint flavor made in collaboration with Tea Bar, available in pints, scoops, and bars, in addition to other bestselling flavors.

Portland Brewery Dining Month Past Event List
Nine Portland breweries will prove that they're not just a one-trick pony by showing off enticing food options in addition to their beer. All participating locations will offer a $35 three-course meal with an appetizer, entree, dessert, a drink (beer, house wine, or non-alcoholic beverage), and a $10 voucher for your next meal.
