NEW OPENINGS AND RETURNS
Queer spaces are a sadly rare commodity these days. There are only 23 lesbian bars currently open in the United States, and Portland itself has lost many treasured LGBTQ spaces in the last several years, including Embers, Rebel Rebel, and the Roxy. All this means that it's particularly exciting that the queer nightlife hub Local Lounge reopened as a new gay bar called Back2Earth last weekend. The new project, owned by Eagle Portland Like List owner Dan Henderson, features bar grub like burgers, cheese dip with ciabatta, and fried gyoza, not to mention drinks like espresso martinis and watermelon mojitos.
Jeju Like List
The highly anticipated project from Peter Cho and Sun Young Park, the married couple behind the famed spots Han Oak Like List and Toki Like List , opened its doors in the former Renata Like List space on June 25. The buzzy spot features multiple tasting menu formats with an emphasis on "wood-fired, whole-animal techniques," plus a wide selection of Korean spirits and liqueurs. There's even karaoke, so get ready to belt out your best Mariah Carey high notes.
The End Like List
Hey Love Like List co-owners Emily Mistell and Nicholas Musso teamed up with Cat's Paw owner Mickey Reyes, Sweet Hereafter Like List bartender Dylan Long, and chef Sam Smith to open this quirky bar next door to the Oregon Theatre (Portland's longest-running adult film theater, which closed its doors in 2020) at the end of June. Expect fun, craveable snacks like buttered popcorn and budae jjigae Cup Noodles alongside "nostalgia-based cocktails" like s'mores espresso martinis, melon ball Negronis, and Buffalo sauce micheladas.
Grand Central Bakery Like List
The local bakery chain will host the ribbon cutting for its eighth Portland area location inside Hillsboro's Main Street Commons food hall tomorrow. The new outpost features farm landscape murals painted by artist Paola de la Cruz as well as a selection of bread, pastries, sandwiches, salads, and rotating seasonal specials.

Pastry chef Gabriella Martinez, who runs the pop-up Sweet Creature, and Ketsuda “Nan” Chaison, the co-founder of Mestizo Like List , Kati Like List , and Norah Like List , plan to open this new bar and dessert destination in the former Lokanta Like List space in September. You can look forward to plated desserts and mezcal-centric cocktails. Even more good news: After chef Luna Contreras' acclaimed pop-up Chelo Like List ends its residency at the seasonal restaurant Dame Like List in mid-August, it will move into Libre during the day. The new incarnation of Chelo will serve fresh baked goods like conchas, bollos, tres leches cakes, breads, and quiches, plus "snackified" versions of some of the pop-up's most popular items, such as the fan-favorite tlayuda.
The Willamette Week reports that the fast-food franchise recently closed its 1620 NW 23rd Ave location, which opened in September 2021.
Yui Like List
Chef Chalunthorn “Yui” Schaeffer announced on Instagram earlier this week that she will close her namesake Thai restaurant on July 29, writing, "I'm just gonna take a little break to focus on my real love which is caring for dogs and puppies but YUI will be around. I'm planning on doing a few pop-ups here in Portland so y'all don't miss my food too much. This has been a super huge opportunity and I appreciate everyone that came in and tried our food! Thank all y'all and thank you Concordia, Alberta, and NE Portland for allowing me to serve you my favorite dishes!"

Portland Mercury's Summer of Slushies 2023
You’ve probably known since you were a kid making layered “graveyard” Slurpee creations at 7-11 that there’s nothing better than a frosty, icy treat on a sweltering day, and the forward-thinking innovators who have added booze to the equation have only improved on that already glorious experience. The Portland Mercury will once again team up with bars throughout the Portland area to offer you exclusive alcoholic slushies for just $8 a pop. Let a bartender hand you something fruity and delightful with a little paper umbrella and a straw, close your eyes, and allow yourself to be transported to paradise.
Pickle lovers, this one's for you—the vegan frozen treat shop has reprised its popular "Tickle My Pickle" paleta, which contains a full dill spear. If you need convincing, the Portland Mercury's Suzette Smith has written about the flavor, "I had my reservations, but the tastes really worked. The salty brine never wavered in its vinegar deliciousness, and that dill wedge surprise had me engaged right down to the personalized Ice Queen popsicle stick."
