For their "Rad Readers" series, available from May 28 through July 1, the artisan ice creamery Salt & Straw is teaming up with Scholastic to offer five flavors inspired by children's books: Monster Blood (a "green goo" flavor with strawberry bark, inspired by R.L. Stine's iconic Goosebumps series), Geronimo Stilton & The Frosted Frozen Feast (a salted caramel flavor with parmesan-steeped cream, mascarpone cheesecake, and buttery cracker crust crumbles, inspired by Elisabetta Dami's Geronimo Stilton), Smile: Words & Pictures (a vanilla flavor with yellow and pink almond-infused sponge cake meant to resemble pencils and stracciatella "pencil shavings," inspired by Raina Telgemeier's Smile), Amulet: Fruit of the Gadoba Tree (a cacao nib-infused sweet cream flavor with dollops of "gadoba" fruit, inspired by Kazu Kibuishi's Amulet), and Twins: Pear with Twinnamon Swirl (a pairing of pear ice cream and cinnamon-laced cream cheese swirl, inspired by Varian Johnson and Shannon Wright's Twins). The deli is hosting a East Coast-themed "Tails & Claws" collaboration pop-up Past Event Like List with Bento Bros on Sunday, May 30, featuring a menu of lobster rolls, lobster grilled cheese sandwiches, lobster platters, beer-battered fish sandwiches, lobster mac and cheese, popcorn shrimp, and popcorn lobster. They will also have a selection of sushi rolls on deck, including varieties with fried lobster, fresh lobster, bay scallops, and shrimp tempura. The sweets pop-up Two Spoons will bring the dessert: pineapple upside-down mini cupcakes, key lime pie, and chocolate chunk salted toffee cookies. Pre-orders are required.
