Mardi Gras, the pre-Lent celebration of extravagance and excess, is next Tuesday, March 1. Even if a trip to New Orleans isn't in the cards for you, you can still celebrate in style with our list of places to get king cake, beignets, crawfish boils, and other food and drink specials from local businesses like Delta Cafe and NOLA Doughnuts. Gris Gris Kitchen List
This small-batch kitchen serving Southern and Cajun favorites for pickup and delivery only is offering traditional king cake with a cinnamon sugar ribbon and a galette des rois cake filled with frangipane (sweet almond custard). If you want a smaller treat, try the "galette des reines," or queen's cake, a pastry filled with almond paste. Other Mardi Gras dishes include shrimp Creole, ready-to-bake chicken pot pie, and three different kolache varieties (boudin, muffuletta, and crawfish en croûte).

The local French bistro chain is baking rich white chocolate and cardamom brioche king cakes drizzled with sweet lemon icing and sprinkled with rock sugar. Pre-order is required at least three days in advance. They're also offering festive passionfruit macarons with Mardi Gras-colored sprinkles and a Mardi Gras family meal to serve five, with Cajun gumbo, garlic rice, par-baked spelt baguettes, and assorted macarons.
