Chag sameach! Rosh Hashanah, also known as the Jewish New Year, runs from September 25-27 this year. The holiday is typically celebrated with a variety of symbolic foods to bring prosperity: pomegranate for a fruitful year, challah to represent the cycle of the year, and apples and honey to usher in plenty of sweetness. Bonnie and Israel Morales' celebrated Eastern European restaurant is going all out with a holiday feast, available both on the restaurant menu from September 24-26 or for pre-ordered pickup from September 24-25. The festive menu includes apples and honey, chicory salad, chopped chicken liver, short rib and carrot tsimmes with dumplings (or a vegetarian alternative with mushrooms in place of short ribs), lekach (honey cake) with fenugreek smetana mousse and pomegranate caramel, and pan-fried apple pie vareniki dumplings with honey, fenugreek créme anglaise, and cinnamon-cardamom sugar.

Leikam Brewing Add to a List
Portland's very own genuine kosher brewery has created a beer just for the occasion: Major Pom Pomegranate Blonde Ale, brewed in collaboration with the Seattle kosher bakery Muriel's All Day Eats. The brew, described as "a refreshing beer with a fruity and slightly tart profile melded with soft malt," is available in cans at the taproom for all your holiday needs.
