Get Philly cheesesteaks. Philly cheesesteaks are having a moment in Portland. The team behind Gabagool Like List recently opened the cart Whiz Like List , which offers an upscale spin on the Philadelphia classic with grass-fed beef and home-made "cheese whiz" as well as vegan versions with Impossible beef and cashew whiz, while the new Puerto Rican-Philadelphian cart Papi Sal's Lechon Shack Like List is also offering a plant-based "vegan jawn" take with smoked Bridgetown oyster mushrooms, semolina onion rings, vegan cheese whiz, and crispy shallot mayo. Celebrate the Kentucky Derby. This Saturday will be the 147th running of the Kentucky Derby, otherwise known as the "most exciting two minutes in sports"—and a solid excuse to don your most frivolous chapeau as you cheer on outlandishly named Thoroughbreds. This year, North 45 Pub Like List will be celebrating with a dress-up viewing party on their patio with mint juleps (the unofficial beverage of the event). Celebrate your vaccination with incentives. If you're lucky enough to have received that coveted jab in the arm, we have great news: You're also eligible for some extra perks. You may have already heard about Krispy Kreme's offer to provide free doughnuts to anyone who's vaccinated every day for a year, but some local companies are also getting in on the action with freebies of their own. Portland Monthly reports that the local cannabis chain Kaya Shack Like List is offering a "Pot for Shot" program, where customers can flash their vaccine card to receive 10 percent off all purchases through the end of the pandemic, while the Vancouver bar Vault 31 Like List is offering free Jell-O shots for guests who've received shots.

Local kitchen collective Haleakala:PDX will host a pop-up market with food and drink from vendors like Mestizo, Chelsea Cakes, and the Skinny Chef, as well as music, art, clothing, crafts, and more. Proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Meals on Us PDX, which works to feed houseless and veteran communities and anyone else affected by food insecurity.

Celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. It makes sense to start any heritage-based holiday with some new TBR additions. On the new-release front, we're excited for Michelle Zauner's memoir Crying in H Mart, in which the Japanese Breakfast frontwoman details her Korean American upbringing in Eugene, Oregon, losing her mother to terminal pancreatic cancer, and finding connection through food. Going back a few years, you really can't go wrong with Amy Tan's The Joy Luck Club, which follows the friendship of four women who immigrate from China to San Francisco in the 1940s, or with John Okada's canonical, Seattle-set No-No Boy, which centers a young Japanese American man who, still very much affected by the generational trauma of Japanese American incarceration during World War II, refuses to serve in the US army. Powell's Like List has also listed 12 essential books for the occasion, including Chu T’ien-wen's Notes of a Desolate Man, Ocean Vuong's On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous, and Grace Talusan's The Body Papers. Once you've secured your new reading material, get takeout from an AAPI-owned restaurant like the now-famous Nong's Khao Man Gai Like List or the recently opened Toki Like List and plan a visit to an AAPI cultural center like the Portland Japanese Garden Like List or the Japanese American Museum of Oregon Like List (opening next Thursday, May 6).

Celebrate the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art at this end-of-year "anti-gala" that you can stream at home or enjoy from your car (tickets are limited) at a drive-in. Expect performances from Blossom Like List , Moorea Masa, and Frankie Simone to be projected on a rig courtesy of Mobile Projection Unit, plus drive-in-only performances by Friends of Noise artists MARZZ and Beep Beep, along with a virtual end-of-the-night performance by Shannon Funchess aka LIGHT ASYLUM. There will also be raffles, a virtual auction, and surprise treats.

Limbo Remind Like List
Recently nominated for two British Academy Film awards, Ben Sharrock's Limbo is set on a fictional remote Scottish island where a group of newly arrived Syrian refugees await the results of their asylum claims. It zeroes in on Omar, a young Syrian musician who is burdened by his grandfather's oud (a string instrument), which he has carried all the way from his homeland.

Go Mothing! City Nature Challenge Past Event Like List
The rebellious older sister of the butterfly may have an annoying habit of eating holes in sweaters, but moths are actually pretty interesting and mysterious creatures, and beautiful in their own right. Download the iNaturalist app and head to Leach Botanical Garden for a City Nature Challenge that'll teach you all about them. The organizers explain, "Using a light source, we’ll attract these fantastic nighttime creatures and provide them a surface to rest on. Your job will be to watch them arrive, snap a photo, and upload it to iNaturalist, becoming a community science contributor to this amazing global biodiversity database." Space is limited to 15 people, so register soon.

Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival Past Event Like List
