While retaining his flexible jazz approach, Hayden’s works yield vibrant echoes of surf rock, beat music and Memphis soul: a resounding example set by Booker T. Jones with whom Hayden recently shared the stage. The seldom-featured baritone guitar extends downward, half way into bass guitar range and has most often been employed as an auxiliary instrument in wide-spanning genres from country to metal.
