Dakota Modern: The Art of Oscar Howe
As one of the most expressive Native American painters of the 20th century, Yanktonai Dakota artist Oscar Howe blended modern trends in art-making with traditional Sioux aesthetics, challenging perceptions and helping to preserve Native artistic culture along the way. This exhibition follows Howe's work across 40 years of creative development, from his teenage beginnings to sophisticated, abstracted works made in the '50s and '60s.
