How Strange It Is, the latest project from Portland DIY’s Jordan Krinsky, is a product of the desire to bring his more tender and personal compositions to life in a new way. In the spirit of this pursuit, he assembled a seasoned group of musicians and friends starting with drummer Kyle Gordon, then adding Simon McMurchie of Woogie on Guitar, Annie Miranda of Soft Cheese on Bass, and Benson Chong of Honeydiu on Synth. Together they convened in the studio with Vin Christopher (of Ancient Pools and Oh Rose) behind the faders to record the collection of songs they had grown together. The resulting EP is highly collaborative. When listening you can hear the smiles of a group of friends rallying together around a joint cause. The music itself combines bubbling synths and clean guitar with field recordings and distorted, disjointed riffs. Songs will at one moment gently glide on and in the next burst into intricacy. It's a joy to behold on record and even more so when you can be in the same room with all of them. Smiles shining and vibrations abundant.
