The newest exhibition curated by the Immigrant Story—a volunteer-run organization based in Oregon, Washington, Indiana, and Tennessee—features a collaboration with Portland photographer Jim Lommasson and his storytelling project, "What We Carried," which comprises annotated photos of objects that women brought with them to the U.S. from their homelands. "The objects, portraits and narratives connect viewers with the reflections, joys and fears of these young women," adds press materials. "They shine a light on different facets of the Black experience, including the multiple layers of adversity experienced by immigrant women of color and survivors of war."
