Alternative indie band Kokoko!, a staple in Kinshasa’s DIY scene in the Democratic Republic of Congo, makes a lively fusion of electronic, punk, and experimental music using upcycled guitars and other instruments made from junk. The Congolese band’s songs—like the mesmerizing “Tongos’a” and “Kitoko” from their new album Fongola—are designed for the dancefloor, and create an up-tempo pulse fit for a never-ending block party.
