It was possible, but difficult, to see the Northern Lights from Portland a couple of months ago. This summer, OMSI is hosting free star parties at Rooster Rock and Stub Stewart that are sure to delight whether the aurora piqued your interest in the skies or you've always been a seasoned stargazer. The first event commemorates the landmark 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing with telescopic views of the first quarter moon and other celestial bodies. Attendees are advised to arrive at sunset with red light flashlights and warm clothing; you'll be surprised how fast a few hours can go by when you're gazing in wonder at the heavens. by Shannon Lubetich
