The following description comes from the event organizer.

As we enter the dog days of summer, David Loftus, the host of “Story Time for Grownups,” will read tales by Ray Bradbury set in the fictional city of Green Town. No cover, but proof of vaccination required for service.

Best known for book-burning firemen and tales set on Mars, a recurring setting for stories throughout Bradbury’s career was “Green Town, Illinois,” the fictional counterpart of his birthplace of Waukegan. Spirited young boys, befuddled parents, and elderly men and women face the mysteries of life, love, and mortality in a deceptively quiet and sleepy little burg that is ageless. Events that might have occurred in anyone’s life mix with happenings that are utterly impossible.

Order a pint of beer, a pot of tea, soup, sandwich, or cookies while you enjoy the old-fashioned pleasure of listening to stories read aloud. Browse the shelves for a book you may take home.

David has read to listeners in libraries, coffee shops, Powell’s Books, Borders, and Umpqua Bank, as well as for recordings for the blind. In May he played a hip-hop rapping blind man in the Oregon Children’s Theatre production of “Last Stop on Market Street.” He writes about books, films, acting, karaoke, travel, his forebears, and politics on his Patreon page.
