"Open Space presents a fresh take on a holiday classic in their unconventional winter production, The NOT-Cracker. Artistic Director Franco Nieto is at the helm of the production featuring Open Space’s Company Artists. Charlene Hannibal and Maeve Dougal, directors of The School at Open Space, have choreographed the children’s roles.

The NOT-Cracker follows the arc of Ted, danced by Colleen Loverde, an unfortunate human who thinks they are unable to dance. As Ted enters the NOT-Cracker’s magical realm, they are swept up by a band of wild creatures to show them all the different ways one can experience dance. Along their adventure, Ted meets a waddle of penguins, a band of Polichinelles, a mischievous garden of flowers, a drag queen, and so many more. The NOT-Cracker is a family friendly show that emphasizes inclusivity, joy, laughter and self-discovery. Tchaikovsky’s music is woven throughout the production.

Nieto’s company includes professional dancers Colleen Loverde, Tony Carnell, Sophia Mladineo, Audrey Wells, Annie Borden, Elise Gonsalves, and Bryaunna Kostelnik. Special guests include Charles Roy and Daniel Giron from Portland’s House of Ada, who were recently featured in HBO Max’s season three of Legendary; and a Portland fan favorite, hip hop artist NØIR."
