As part of the annual Vanport Mosaic Festival, the Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble will convene for a live presentation of a new song by lyricist S. Renee Mitchell, vocalist Marilyn Keller, and composer/pianist Ezra Weiss, as well as a discussion of the former Oregon towns of Vanport and Maxville. The song "celebrates the creativity and resilience of [Black Oregonians] who persisted in Portland by forming new communities despite the resistance of racist Portland leaders and residents, in addition to recounting the terror of the flood," according to a press release.
