The following description comes from the event organizer.

We are excited to be featuring two solo exhibitions this month by artists Wes Mills and Megan Murphy.

___

PDX CONTEMPORARY ART is pleased to present the silent twig, a solo exhibition by Wes Mills.

Deeply personal yet visually spare, the drawings are a reflection of Mill’s experiences and surroundings. Included in the exhibition are a series of color pencil drawings, small watercolor paintings, and a collection of oil paintings done on small, round wooden log slabs.

The works are a study in the contemplative and emanate an intuitive sense of the universal. Seemingly simple marks bind pieces together. These meditative works draw the eye with their complexity and restrained energy, asking for careful observation.

PDX CONTEMPORARY ART is pleased to present Ether, an exhibition of new work by Megan Murphy.

Beginning with ethereal images of clouds and vapor on glass, Megan Murphy carefully and repeatedly adds and sands away layers of text and pigment. The build up of materials atop the glass produce an image that is still, faint, and touched with lines of horizontal text that catch the light as the viewer moves across the paintings. The process becomes similar to an archeological dig, mining what is not always visible. The effect of standing in front of one of Murphy’s paintings is to be literally figured into the work, its reflection returning a gaze from deep within the faded layers of history.
