Piroshky Piroshky Century Square
According to a press release, the Pike Place piroshky purveyor so nice they named it twice opens its new location in Century Square Friday, September 28. The new location, which is the fifth for the popular Russian bakery, includes a glass case of pastries with piroshkies on display for passers-by and a walk-up window. The shop and window will both be open during weekdays, with just the walk-up window open on weekends. For the grand opening, they will give away a new chocolate coconut cookie and strawberry marzipan square for free with any purchase until 2 pm, while supplies last. Piroshky Piroshky also plans to launch a food truck in the coming months.

Sizzling Pot King
This new Hunan-style restaurant, which also has a location in Bellevue, opened a location in the International District last weekend. The restaurant specializes in dry Chinese pots (a similar concept to hot pots but without the soup base) with options for proteins, vegetables, flavorings, and spice levels, as well as fried dumplings and other Hunan cuisine.

The Lounge by AT&T
A new "concept store" from AT&T opened in Capitol Hill on Wednesday, September 26. AT&T has partnered with Ada's Technical Books & Cafe owners David and Danielle Hulton to create a long-term pop-up called "Ada's Discovery Cafe" at the Lounge, featuring a coffee program supervised by cafe manager and United States Barista Champion Cole McBride, as well as "coffee robots." There's also a space with entertainment, including eSports games, live music from local musicians, painting lessons from local artists, and interactive VR/AR technology.

El Chupacabra South Lake Union
The Mexican restaurant announced on its website that its South Lake Union location shut down on September 16. The building was slated to be demolished, which the business was aware of when they signed their lease, so the restaurant opted to close its doors following peak season on the final day of the Boats Afloat show.

Petite Galerie
Chef and former Chopped contestant Rob Sevcik's upscale Madison Valley restaurant, which opened in February and received positive reviews from Seattle Met, has shuttered due to "a mix of operational challenges and a significant bout of illness this summer."

Shake Shack opens next week
Seattleites won't have to wait much longer for a location of the ever-popular New York-based fast-casual chain known for its burgers, crinkle-cut fries, and frozen-custard "concretes": the South Lake Union location, which was first announced in August 2017, finally touches down in Seattle next week on Saturday, October 6. The new location's menu is locally inspired and will include items like the Montlake Double Cut, a double cheeseburger with Beecher's Just Jack cheese, caramelized onions, and mustard-mayo, and the Coffee and Croissant vanilla concrete with dark Theo Chocolate chunks, coffee caramel sauce, and a Sea Wolf Baker croissant brittle (!!!). There'll also be beer from local breweries, including Fremont Brewing, Black Raven Brewing Co., Aslan Brewing Co., and Reuben’s Brews.

Bang Bang Kitchen coming to Othello in October
Miki and Yuki Sodos, who own Capitol Hill's Cafe Pettirosso and Belltown's Bang Bang Cafe, are opening a new venture called Bang Bang Kitchen near the Othello light rail station. The new restaurant, which is set to open in October, will serve New Mexican staples with a Northwest influence and will prominently feature fresh hatch chile peppers, a famous specialty of New Mexico that the Albuquerque-born Sodos sisters will fly in from their native state.

Ballard's Bitterroot BBQ plans to open a location in Tacoma in summer 2019.

Zylberschtein’s makes its Kickstarter goal
The forthcoming Jewish deli Zylberschtein's from Standard Bakery owner Josh Grunig reached its $50,000 Kickstarter goal on Monday, September 24.

Willow’s Inn cookbook
Chef Blaine Wetzel of the Willows Inn on Lummi Island plans to release his second cookbook, The Willows Inn, in 2020, sharing recipes and techniques from the restaurant.

Sweet Lo’s now available at Metropolitan Market
Ice cream maker Lauren Wilson of Sweet Lo's Ice Cream announced via Instagram that her homemade ice cream, which comes in flavors like lemon bar and Oreo, will now be available at all Metropolitan Market locations.

Poulet Galore coming to Ballard
Restaurateur Josh Henderson, who launched Skillet when it opened in 2007 and currently owns Kiki Ramen and Quality Athletics, announced via Instagram that his erstwhile coal-fired rotisserie chicken restaurant Poulet Galore will be making a comeback and re-opening in downtown Ballard in the former space of Volterra in spring 2019. Recently, Henderson made news for selling his restaurants Westward, Great State Burger, and Saint Helens to Renee Erickson.

Wanderlust NW Taco Pop-Up
Sate your cravings for Mexican food at this taco pop-up courtesy of Wanderlust NW Catering Co., which will sling items like carnitas and barbacoa tacos on handmade corn tortillas with sweet onions, cilantro, lime, and pickled vegetables, plus a Mexican chocolate cajeta flan with tequila whipped cream and alder-smoked sea salt for dessert. It sold out in less than two hours last time, so get there early.

8th Annual Dick's Drive-In Walkathon
Raise money for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center by walking a 15-mile course (you'll get all day) to each Dick's Drive-In location (except the one in Edmonds), starting at the Lake City location.

Chocolate for Dinner with Chef Justin Khanna
Local chef Justin Khanna will incorporate chocolate into his dinner courses. After you taste the cacao-laden creations, learn how a bar of chocolate is made by touring the factory.

Elysian Brewing's 4th Annual Great Pumpkin Weigh Off
The weekend before the Great Pumpkin Beer Festival, local growers will haul in their gigantic gourds to determine the biggest pumpkin, which will take the honor of serving as a pumpkin beer vessel at the festival. There will also be pumpkin painting, food trucks, an Elysian beer garden, and a performance by the Hasslers.

Farm-to-Table Dinner with Jonathan Sundstrom
With the opening of his lovely restaurant Lark in 2003, James Beard Award–nominated chef Jonathan Sundstrom was an early adopter of the farm-to-table concept, and his abiding affection for the Pacific Northwest shines through in every dish, with impeccably sourced ingredients from local farmers, artisans, and foragers. It’s fitting, then, that he should be the one to prepare a super-local supper on the historic 818-acre Carnation Farms. At this dinner, guests will enjoy a meal in the farm’s organic garden and get a behind-the-scenes tour.

Fresh Hop Ale Festival
Amazingly, Yakima Valley supplies more than 75 percent of the nation’s hop crop. During this time of year, local craft brewers avail themselves of the proximity and abundance of the hop harvest, making ales with hops processed no more than 24 hours after being harvested. The result? Brews with a milder, more botanical profile and less bitterness than is normally associated with hoppy beers. Because of the fragile nature of those little green, cone-shaped flowers, it’s hard to rival the range of fresh hop beers found in our region, and they’re available for an extremely limited time. Yakima’s Fresh Hop Ale Festival, which benefits Yakima County–based arts and science organizations, provides a rare opportunity to taste a range of these hyper-seasonal, ephemeral beers in one place before they’re gone.

The South Park-based coffee shop Resistencia Coffee will throw a grand opening bash with a ribbon cutting ceremony and activities like face painting, a doggy meet and greet, buy-one-get-one free coffee deals, a corn hole tournament, trivia, and a South Park bar hop.

National Coffee Day Fundraiser at Caffè Umbria
If you needed an extra reason to caffeinate on National Coffee Day, the Ballard, Pioneer Square, and Westlake locations will be donating 10% of their proceeds to the nonprofit Salt and Light Coalition, which supports female survivors of trafficking. They'll also be featuring two new drinks: the Caffé al Pepe, with a mix of honey, black pepper, cinnamon, and nutmeg with espresso and steamed milk, and the Blood Orange Espresso Soda, with blood orange San Pellegrino soda, double ristretto espresso, and Monin Vanilla over ice in a mason jar with a lemon wedge.
