In celebration of Latin American Heritage Month, Seattle-based Indigenous scholar, scientist, and author Jessica Hernandez will lead this discussion on her book Fresh Banana Leaves: Healing Indigenous Landscapes Through Indigenous Science. Hernandez drew from experiences with her Maya Ch’orti’ family in El Salvador and Zapotec family in Oaxaca, as well as her work in academia and in community, to write a book that centers vital Indigenous environmental perspectives. Lauded poet and professor Claudia Castro Luna will moderate the talk.
