At his pinnacle, Buddy Guy’s probably the most amazing electric guitarist living. I say “at his pinnacle” because his albums sometimes skew uneven, and live, he tends to take breaks mid-set, turning the spotlight over to sidemen. But when he’s on, when he’s in the middle of an electric flurry, you hear an invocation, a summoning. Something invisible, formless, comes alive in the fusillades of bent notes. Something lives.
