The following description is from the event organizer.

Wa Na Wari is proud to present Cake Dance, a 21st Century version of the Cakewalk. Cakewalks were birthed out of the artistic ingenuity of formerly enslaved Africans during the mid-19th Century - it's where the phrase "take the cake" came from because a cake was awarded as prize in the dance contest.

Cake Dance will feature local and national Black dancers performing Lindy Hop, Tap, and Chicago style steppin', which will show an array of self-determined, radical Black dance and offer some history about "cake-walking." Music will be provided by DJ Lady Coco: @djladycoco.

The Cake Dance is also a cakewalk. Participants will purchase a $25 ticket per round, and they will walk around in a number circle to music by DJ Lady Coco. When the music stops, you stand on the number closest to you and the MC will call out a number. If your number is called, you can select a cake from one of the amazing participating local bakeries like Baked from the Hart, Flour Lane Bakeshop, Gray Seas Pies, KJ Cakery, Moon Village Bakery, Seattle Pastry Project, Sea Wolf Bakers, Tom Douglas and more.
