I have a confession: I love the 1975. I know the English group’s style is just two steps away from being unabashed boy-band pop music, but, FUCK, it works so well. “Love Me”? A great meditation on vanity and superstardom. “TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME”? I think about the line “You text that boy sometimes” every day. “Girls”? It’s pure, unadulterated pop. Lead singer Matt Healy’s litheness and cheeky, confessional lyrics give the band a surprisingly harder edge than you’d expect. And I love it.
