Héctor Tobar, who contributed to the Los Angeles Times' Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of the 1992 LA riots, rebukes racism toward Latino people by pulling together personal experiences as the son of Guatemalan immigrants and stories told to him by his Latino students. In Our Migrant Souls: A Meditation on Race and the Meanings and Myths of "Latino", Tobar explores topics ranging from Frida Kahlo to the cartel genre in TV and film, giving voice to the "angst and anger" experienced by Latinos who are rightfully sick to death of economic exploitation, border walls, and tropes about "illegals."
