Multiple Grammy Award winner and renowned jazz bassist Marcus Miller will be joining us again this December 1-4. Fresh off of a worldwide tour, Miller will be returning to Jazz Alley with a new band, new music and a fresh take on some Miller classics. Those familiar with Miller’s work are aware that Marcus has been an influence on the music scene for decades. Winner of multiple Grammys, prestigious international awards and also a UNESCO Artist for Peace, Marcus’ impact is felt worldwide. His identifiable bass sound can be found on over 500 recordings. His work as a bass player, composer and producer with music icons such as Miles Davis, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, David Sanborn, Al Jarreau, George Benson, Bill Withers, Grover Washington, Jr, Wayne Shorter to name just a few - are legendary in the music world. Marcus was the mastermind behind Miles Davis’ groundbreaking album Tutu, composing and producing most of the songs on the album. The title song, which Miller wrote in honor of South African activist Archbishop Desmond Tutu, helped to define the sound of Davis’ final era. The album won two Grammys and is often described as one of Davis’ most significant contributions to the canon of contemporary jazz
