Seattle-based artist Markel Uriu’s latest exhibition will investigate the narrative around “invasive species” of plants and animals. Uriu uses organic materials—like moss, branches, and leaves—to investigate ideas of impermanence, maintenance, and decay. In An Object Lesson, she’ll be looking specifically at the starling, a European bird that’s considered an invasive species here in North America, introduced to the continent in 1890 on the basis of a mention in Shakespeare’s Henry IV.
