Never Again is Now: China’s Uyghur Muslim Community
China's Uyghur Muslims, who make up less than one percent of China's population and largely reside in the region of Xinjiang, have long been persecuted by the leaders of their otherwise hegemonic country. A recent data leak revealed that so-called voluntary education and training programs for the minority group are more like prisons. UW anthropologist Darren Byler will share his research on the camps and will welcome local Uyghur descendants to talk about the oppression their relatives are facing.
