Part of Seattle Festival of Dance + Improvisation

Featuring slowdanger

NIGHTLIGHT: Harvest Moon is a full moon ritual, performance and dance party. Local and visiting performers, musical artists and dancers collaborate to create a performance event that offers people a chance to indulge their desire to party, transmute, manifest, and dance hard.
This month’s special SFD+I NIGHTLIGHT is held by slowdanger, with guest appearances by local artists + visiting SFD+I faculty.

NOTE FROM THE ARTISTS
Join us and Nightlight’s founders Fox Whitney and Moonyeka in honoring the full Sturgeon, Flying Up (Cree), Corn (Algonquian), Black Cherries (Assiniboine), Barley, Fruit, Green, Grain, Red Moon and Harvest Moon. The Sturgeon, a namesake of the august full moon, is a 200 million year old species, they are living fossils representing power and resilience at the time of harvest. Within this evening we will explore cyclical sonic structures such as noise, ambient and dance music to celebrate the fruits of the season and unique beauties within life cycles. Collaboratively, we will engage experimental and improvisational sound practices to conjure a ‘venue for transformation’ (Sharmi Basu). Connect to the blossoming of your effort as we share in closing the last week of festivities at SFD+I.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
anna thompson (they/them) + taylor knight (they/them) are co-founding artistic directors of slowdanger, a multidisciplinary performance organism based in Pittsburgh. Their practice centers the body, researching its relationship to other bodies, environment, sensory information, technology and the unknown.
slowdanger has been presented by the Kennedy Center for the Arts, Springboard Danse Montreal, Carnegie Museum of Art, Place Des Arts, Usine C, Andy Warhol Museum, Kelly Strayhorn Theater and more. slowdanger was one of Dance Magazine’s 2018 ‘25 to Watch’ and has been supported by The Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant, The Heinz Endowments & Pittsburgh Foundation Investing in Professional Artists Award and more.

ABOUT NIGHTLIGHT
NIGHTLIGHT is a seasonal performance ritual + dance party inspired by full moon feelings and the need to come together when and how we can. Artist curators Fox Whitney and Moonyeka invite a rotating group of featured artists to collaborate to create a performance experience and dance party event on or near full moon moments happening in the winter, spring, summer and fall.

This program is a part of the Seattle Festival of Dance + Improvisation. The festival is made possible with generous support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture, and the King County Festival and Events Fund. It is also supported by our community of individual donors, community partners, and arts advocates.
