Childbirth is one of the most miraculous and dangerous things a human can do. A body brings new life into this world while sometimes risking its own well-being to do so—especially here in the United States, where we have the highest rate of maternal mortality in the industrialized world. Now imagine having to do it in chains. (Our Love Is) Unbroken by Bars tells the stories of the many women who gave birth while shackled in prison, through the medium of photography, videography, and painting, seeking to heal formerly incarcerated mothers and raise awareness of the injustice facing those who are still behind bars. The exhibition will also feature work by renowned street artists Jess X Snow and Shyama R. Kuver.
