A martial arts wizard seeks to open a dojo in Tianjin, a task which involves finding both an apprentice and knives. Lots and lots of knives. Just oodles of knives. Not without its charms (Liao Fan brings a craggy Laurence Fishburne quality to the lead) but the lengthy gaps between the action sequences do cause some significant drag. Bonus points, however, for the occasional use of a really wicked Swiss Army Staff gizmo. Get that sucker a spinoff. (ANDREW WRIGHT)
