Your Guide to Holiday Markets & Shopping Events in Seattle: COVID-Friendly 2020 Edition

Urban Craft Uprising, Small Business Saturday, and More
November 24, 2020
Find crafty wares (like the houseplant props, 3-D ornaments, and PNW-themed action figures pictured here from 20 Leagues) from over 150 vendors at Urban Craft Uprising's online Winter Show. (Urban Craft Uprising via Facebook)

Two good things about holiday shopping this year: 1) Department store stampedes are absolutely canceled and 2) In many cases, you don't have to leave the cozy spot by your space heater to find great gifts for everyone on your list. With local businesses and makers in mind, we've rounded up the best online markets, socially distanced pop-ups, and other places to shop this season, from the annual Urban Craft Uprising 2020 Winter Show to the Rainier Beach Arts & Crafts Market to a Holiday Market at Skål Beer Hall, plus Small Business Saturday and Museum Store Sunday ideas. For more options, check out our complete holiday market calendar or our holiday gift guide.

Events are online unless otherwise noted.

Small Business Saturday
COVID-19 setbacks have dealt a huge blow to small businesses in Seattle (and far beyond), which makes your participation in this year's Small Business Saturday—a day dedicated to shopping from independent makers—especially crucial. If you're not sure where to start, consider hitting up the West Seattle Junction or downtown Renton for a day of deals; checking out one of the Capitol Hill businesses participating in Shop the Hill; stopping by Ballard's coffee shop/mail delivery site Sip and Ship for some holiday-card productivity (knowing that 10% of proceeds will benefit Mary's Place); shopping from vendors that were slated for the now-canceled Asian American Pacific Islander Arts & Crafts Fair; visiting Theo Chocolates on Saturday and Sunday for first dibs on their holiday collection; or supporting various local vendors at the Georgetown Trailer Park Mall's outdoor holiday market. For more ideas, check out our directory of local businesses currently open for in-person and/or online shopping.

Museum Store Sunday
After finally getting the green light to reopen at limited capacity, the surge in COVID-19 cases has forced museums to close again until at least December 14 under reinforced distancing guidelines. Shopping from their online shops on Museum Store Sunday (or any other time) is the best way to show your support and keep them afloat, and local institutions happen to offer great gifts for your art-minded loved ones. Through November 29, the Museum of Flight is offering free virtual reality glasses (which can be used to view their virtual aircraft tours) with any purchase of $50 or more, and they're offering free shipping for orders of $75 or more. You can also check out curated collections of goods available online from the Frye, the Seattle Art Museum, the National Nordic Museum, Chihuly Garden and Glass, and the Henry Art Gallery.
