"Colwell joins us in this livestreamed presentation, sharing riveting stories from her new memoir, A Lab of One’s Own: One Woman’s Personal Journey Through Sexism in Science, co-written with Sharon Bertsch McGrayne. From her six decades of work, she documents all that she has seen and heard in the lab, from sexual harassment to systems blocking women from leading professional organizations or publishing their work. But she also witnessed women resisting, and from resistance came special gifts—forced to change specialties so many times, she asserts that women came to see things in a more interdisciplinary way, leading to many of the new discoveries in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Join Colwell as she presents an astute diagnosis of how to fix the problem of sexism in science—and to celebrate the women pushing back against the status quo." (Promo Copy)
