You'll find flavors like caramel apple and passionfruit on tap at Tacoma Cider Co. (Tacoma Cider Co.)

Tacoma is experiencing something of a cider renaissance right now: Just in the last year and a half, beginning with the opening of Locust Cider's Tacoma location in July 2018, an array of taprooms dedicated exclusively to the fermented fruit beverage have appeared in the Gritty City, and Auburn's Schilling Cider Tasting Room List is scheduled to re-open after renovations sometime this year. We've rounded up the area's cider-drinking destinations for you below, so you can taste flavors ranging from lavender to raspberry habanero. For more ideas, check out our complete food and drink calendar.

Cockrell Hard Cider List
Though it's not quite in Tacoma, this family-owned farm cidery, which opened in Puyallup in 2014, is worth a visit. You can meet chickens, dogs, and other animals on the premises and sip flavors like blackberry and "Devil'N" (raspberry habanero) inside the Roost, a tasting room in a gazebo.

Incline Cider House
This family-owned and -operated cider taproom, which opened last September, is Incline Cider's first retail tasting room and serves "one of the largest draft cider selections in the South Sound," with over 16 ciders on tap, as well as beer and wine. Guests can dine on pretzels from Rhein Haus, bar snacks, and meat and cheese plates, or bring in outside food.

Locust Cider
The Tacoma outpost of this popular Woodinville-based cider company was Tacoma's first cider-only taproom when it opened in July 2018. It offers 12 flavors on tap, including favorites like dark cherry and honey pear, seasonal flavors like hibiscus, and limited specials like cilantro jalapeño and mango habanero, as well as custom barrel-aged ciders.

Tacoma Cider Co. List
Tacoma Brewing Co. opened this cider taproom offshoot last October. According to founder and Tacoma Brewing brewmaster Morgan Alexander, many of the ciders take their inspiration from classic cocktails and are designed to work in tandem with spirits, so cider fans can enjoy varieties like Jungle Bird Cider, Painkiller Cider, and Mai Tai Cider, in addition to flavors like tepache (a fermented pineapple drink), caramel apple, lavender botanical, ginger, and barrel-aged passionfruit. (The brewery is also making a foray into the burgeoning world of boozy bubbly water with the grand opening of Tacoma Seltzer Co. Past Event List on March 14.)

Tin Hat Cider List
Located in South Tacoma, this tiny, small-batch cidery in a converted garage is the newest of the bunch, having opened just this February. It features five flavors on tap, including "Tin Hat" (a flagship flavor made with Granny Smith apples), the "Rassle" (made with raspberry puree), and Blueberry Pomegranate.

Tart Hard Cider
This hard cidery, which opened its Tumwater taproom in April 2018, is a collaboration between apple lovers Zoe Van Schyndel and Nicholas E. Timm. As you'd expect from the name, their tastes lean toward the tangy side, with flavors like Granny's Grudge (made with Granny Smith apples), Apple Pie, Mojito Madness, and Ging-a-Berry (their take on a rosé hard cider).
