LIVESTREAMED EVENTS

Creem: America's Only Rock 'n' Roll Magazine Past Event List
There was once a time when magazines were healthy and thriving, and the words on their glossy pages could shift culture and make stars out of many a stringy, floppy-haired, fleet-fingered would-be guitar-god. Creem was one of the most influential of such magazines, and this documentary charts the mag's beginnings as an underground zine, basically, to becoming a publishing powerhouse and a must-read thanks to people like publisher Barry Kramer and its most famous columnist, Lester Bangs. Proceeds help benefit the Hollywood Theatre.

Sneaker Week Past Event List
Sneaker Week PDX promises not only to scratch the itch of committed sneaker heads, but also to buff that itch with a tasteful nubuck. And since a lot of the sneaker-shopping adventures that heads have been getting in lately are internet-based, Sneaker Week's transition from in-person to virtual festival should be as smooth as a fresh-out-the-box pair. The event features talks, workshops, films, and opportunties to build and strengthen the community.

Collide-O-Scope Remind List
Collide-O-Scope has been described as "half video art installation and half stoner gawkfest" and for 10 years it has been an entertainment staple for seekers of fun and hilarity, and lovers of the weird and wild. Using pop culture ephemera and obscure oddities from film, VHS, music, and all forms of media as their paints and canvas, Collide-O-Scope is an expertly crafted, mind-melting, often hilarious stream of consciousness video extravaganza.

LIVESTREAMED CONCERTS

If you haven't tried it out yet, tonight's the night, and we'll see you at 6pm. If you have tried it out before? Welcome back. It's a damn nice oasis of low-key bliss, isn't it?

THURSDAY, AUG 13

IN-PERSON EVENTS

Shane Torres Past Event List
Whenever former Portland comic Shane Torres pops back into town, it’s a cause for celebration. A true comedian’s comedian, Shane’s stand-up is both wickedly sharp and sharply emotional, and he’s a true pro at crowd work and hilarious off-the-cuff improvisation. He’s also not afraid of taking on nearly any topic, dancing to the edge of losing the crowd, and then pulling them back at the last possible second. Beginning comics: Watch this guy. ’Cuz this is how one does it.

LIVESTREAMED EVENTS

Flip Schultz Past Event List
The Nowhere Comedy Club hosts this livestreamed set from a 25-year vet of the stand-up scene, a man known for cracking up some of your favorite comics, including Dana Carvey, George Carlin, and Weird Al.

Chris Garcia Past Event List
Sit down for some stand-up from the star of Comedy Central's This is Not Happening and WNYC's upcoming podcast Dead Parents Social Club.

LIVESTREAMED CONCERTS

59th Annual Philadelphia Folk Festival Past Event List
While COVID has closed off many opportunities to enjoy live music the way we used to do, it's also opened up a ton of opportunities to enjoy experiences we likely would have never gotten around to seeing in ye olden times (of 2019). The Philadelphia Folk Festival (now in its 59th year) is a pretty big deal, but not a lot of Portlanders usually have it on their radar. But for 2020, now you can bring that fest to your TV with a couple clicks, and that means enjoying live music from Los Lobos, Allen Stone, Shakey Graves, Ben Gibbard, Rhiannon Giddens, Ivan Neville, and many, many more. It's not just live music, either: The Philadelphia Folksong Society is planning on adding campfire open mics, zoomable campsites, a craft show, and all the things that make going to a fest feel like going to a fest.

Music Gives: Together for St. Jude Past Event List
A benefit concert supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, pulling together artists from multiple genres and eras to lend their voice to a good cause, and also inviting some of the country's best-known chefs to help viewers make meals to enjoy while they watch performances from Kirk Franklin, Seal, Anthony Hamilton, Coco Quinn, Third Eye Blind, Brad Paisley, and more.

Lucinda Williams Past Event List
There are very few American singer/songwriters who’ve been able to transcend the purgatory of genre and cross over into “national treasure” territory. While debating nominees, one should consider Lucinda Williams, who has written a ubiquitous Grammy jam (Mary Chapin Carpenter’s “Passionate Kisses”), a universally acclaimed Americana masterpiece (Car Wheels on a Gravel Road), and produced a fruitful catalog that includes collaborations with legends like Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and Elvis Costello. Like a twangier Chrissie Hynde wearing well-worn cowboy boots, lost in the Laurel Canyon wilderness, Williams expertly glides between steely grit and tender grandeur, shedding tough layers to expose vulnerable heartstrings and then wrapping them back up with swathes of faded denim.

José James, Taali Past Event List
He's been a smooth jazz crooner, a jazzed-up R&B singer, a Hendrix-esque player, and now he's a solid synthesis of all those things, and he's streaming live from Levon Helm studios tonight, with help from Taali.
