"A deep investigation into what the secret lives of women with synesthesia, autism, ADHD, high sensitivity, and sensory processing disorder can teach the rest of the world — especially in this moment of solitude and crisis — Harvard School of Public Health-trained journalist Jenara Nerenberg set out to uncover her own mysterious symptoms, weaving in historical insight, and uncovering the future of cognitive diversity in medicine, science, the corporate world, Hollywood, design, tech, and other fields. Women are caught within a flawed medical system that focuses on diagnosing young, male populations and many women won’t learn about their neurological differences until they are adults, if at all. Instead, depression, shame and anxiety balloon, ridding the world of the gifts that divergent minds have to offer. Divergent Mind: Thriving in a World That Wasn’t Designed for You offers a path forward, suggesting practical changes in how we design our surroundings, how we communicate at work and at home, and how we enable divergent minds to thrive in a world that wasn’t designed for them. Nerenberg will be joined in conversation by journalist Maya Dusenbery, author of Doing Harm: The Truth About How Bad Medicineand Lazy Science Leave Women Dismissed, Misdiagnosed, and Sick."
