In this week's batch of food news, Sunshine Noodles chef Diane Lam and Stem Wine Bar owner and sommelier Wei-En Tan launch the new French bistro Alouette, and The Sudra chef-owner Sanjay Chandrasekaran debuts the vegan Italian restaurant Lilla. Lilla List  
The Sudra chef-owner and former Aviv co-owner Sanjay Chandrasekaran opened this new vegan Italian restaurant with pizza and pasta in the former Aviv space in Southeast Portland on May 26. Choose from options like asparagus risotto, soy ricotta and spinach pizza, and gnocchi with textured vegetable protein bolognese.

Gustav’s List and Bargarten List
Owner Suzeanne Briede announced this week that she will close the Beaverton location of her biergarten-style bar and restaurant Bargarten on June 26 and the Clackamas location of her German pub Gustav's and July 11, writing, "With measured emotion, I share a tough decision that I have made due to recent health issues.  As I continue to work through cancer recovery, I have concluded that it is time for me to take a different path in life, so after 34 years in the business, I will eventually be a guest rather than an operator!"

Kimura Toast Bar List
This shokupan toast specialist shut its doors permanently on May 29, citing lockdowns and forest fires as factors leading to the closure. Its famous Basque cheesecake will continue to be available at its sibling location Kayo's Ramen Bar List .

Yonder List
Chef Maya Lovelace is closing her Southern comfort food spot Yonder on June 26 to make way for a more open-ended concept called Hissyfit, which will explore Southern influences alongside globally inspired flavors. The name, a Southern slang phrase for a tantrum, is meant to evoke Southern culture as well as the "wild and untamed feminine." Hissyfit is set to debut on July 6.

Guy Fieri visits Oregon on new TV series
Last week, Portland enjoyed a moment in the spotlight after Netflix's Somebody Feed Phil paid a visit to the Rose City List . This week, the flamboyant, bleach-haired Food Network personality Guy Fieri is cruising through Oregon in an episode of his new series Guy's All-American Road Trip, in which he rides through the U.S. in an RV with a caravan of family and friends. In the episode, which airs tonight on the Food Network at 9 pm ET/PT, Guy ventures up the West Coast, with stops in Gold Beach and Florence as well as Leavenworth, Washington. Guy and his son Hunter end the trip with a visit to Jim Belushi's family farm in Oregon.

Pip's Doughnuts named 8th best doughnuts in the U.S. 
Today is National Doughnut Day, and in honor of the holiday, Yelp compiled a list of the nation's Top 100 US Donut Shops. With Portland's rich doughnut scene, it's no surprise that a local favorite managed to crack the top 10, with Pip's Original Doughnuts & Chai List coming in at #8. (We'd have liked to see Doe Donuts List , Fills, and other local doughnut institutions make the list as well, but we'll take it!)

A queer wine festival is coming
Wine Country Pride, which celebrates the LGBTQ+ community of Willamette Valley, has planned a Queer Wine Fest Past Event List —the first event of its kind—for June 24. The event will showcase over 30 wines from 15 wineries from Oregon, California, and Washington, all of them queer-made, queer-grown, or from queer-owned wineries. The night will also include food pairings and live music from Camp Crush.

New Seasons employees launch independent union efforts
Workers at New Seasons’ Seven Corners store in Southeast Portland officially moved to unionize last Friday with the goal of attaining more of a voice in company negotiations on issues such as wages and benefits.

Good AF Times Patio Party: For Bitter For Worse Non-Alcoholic Cocktails
Past Event List Sip elevated non-alcoholic cocktails from the award-winning brand For Bitter For Worse alongside a menu of modern Filipino fare with gluten-free and vegan options. The bitterness will be tempered by gluten-free desserts by Lace Case Confections, tunes from DJ Aquamarine, photo ops with Caesar the No Drama Llama, and a performance by local drag starlet Bolivia Carmichaels.

Two Year Anniversary Party with Suzor Wines Past Event List
Help the Italian deli celebrate two years of business with this party, which will feature the official debut of their summer aperitivo pop-up menu, a new spritz garden, and plenty of vino from Suzor Wines.

My People's Market 9 Past Event List
At My People's Market, BIPOC businesses, creatives, and culinary masters will take center stage to start summer off right. Performances by local Portland artists Spen, M5007, Tatiana, Gardenz, and Majik will provide the vibes, and visitors can peruse 140 different vendor booths. The Numberz will broadcast live on site, and there'll be plenty of multicultural dishes to try, like Himalayan dumplings by Kyikyi.

Pints for Pugs! Past Event List
Snuggle with adorably squash-faced pugs while sipping beers from Stormbreaker Brewing. One dollar from each pint will be donated to Pacific Pug Rescue.

Portland Margarita Week 2022
Past Event List Gulp down salty, limey elixirs from nearly two dozen locally owned bars and restaurants. Two dollars from each margarita sold will be donated to the nonprofit organization El Patojismo, and sponsors will match each donation.

Redwood List
Toast to Pride Month with Redwood's new "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" cocktail, featuring rum, passionfruit, pineapple, lime, and hibiscus served over the rocks for a stunning layered effect. The drink is the first in a series of weekly cocktail specials for June. One dollar from each cocktail sold during the month will be donated to a local charity, beginning with Our House of Portland, which provides healthcare, housing, and other support for low-income people living with HIV.
