OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS

That creepy old porn movie house on Division is now PAM CUT’s Tomorrow Theater List , a 250-seat venue “devoted to expanding what constitutes cinema, art, and multimedia storytelling.” The space will open on November 3 with an activation by David Byrne(!), who will create an interactive Portland edition Past Event List of his online nonprofit magazine Reasons to be Cheerful. (Byrne’s takeover launches the theater’s Carte Blanche series of activations by artists and polymaths.) The Tomorrow Theater’s opening purposefully aligns with PAM’s Rothko Pavilion project, aiming to offer a wide range of programming while the museum’s Whitsell Auditorium is offline. They’ve announced programming through December, so take a look at the full slate here—it’s far more robust than we might’ve expected.

Artists Repertory Theatre recently suspended its 2023/24 season, citing a lack of funding and the rejection of House Bill 2459, which would have awarded the organization $250,000 in recovery funding, as a primary cause. The choice was made after pre-production work for Pueblo Revolt by Indigenous playwright Dillon Christopher Chitto had already begun. The organization is still struggling to raise operational cash, but they’ve now secured enough funding to complete a "grand lobby," which may be used to present theatrical works as soon as spring 2024.
