Jeremy Okai Davis's new collection of figurative paintings shines a light on the experiences of Black Americans in traditional sportsmanship roles within the rigid confines of athleticism and academia. Davis's derby jockeys, basketball players, and other subjects contain a rare emotional depth, due in part to the large size of the works—several of the paintings exhibited in A Good Sport are the largest the artist has ever created.
