The following description comes from the event organizer.

A two-person exhibit by Jingzi Zhao and Maren Solomon will be on display in the Multnomah Arts Center Gallery March 29 through May 4, 2024. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, April 6 from 1-3 p.m.

Jingzi Zhao is an artist who specializes in creative movement and portraiture photography. The works she will be showing were created with local dancers during the first years of the pandemic. In describing this work, she says that “the photographs bear witness to our collective resilience, adaptability, and unyielding desire to connect and create.” Her work is paired with that of Maren Salomon, a multimedia artist who created a large 3’ x 19’ cut paper work entitled “The Walk” during the same timeframe. Salomon will also be showing sculptural objects she created from the remains of that cut paper art process.

In richly diverse ways, both artists were exploring movement during a time of great stillness. This exhibit takes place during the fourth anniversary of when the pandemic state of emergency was declared in Oregon. It provides a vantage point from which to look back, and to continue to feel our way forward.
