Movies like this feel at home in festival circuits. Coconut Hero has quirk, cleverness, and a sense of humor. Unfortunately, that sense of humor loses its value when stretched over a melodramatic plot that lacks the engine necessary to keep the story moving forward. This is Little Miss Sunshine without the beauty pageant; sad, sorry people who can't stand each other or themselves, who stumble from one scene to the next looking for... something. An answer? A companion? Worth? Recommended for fans of teen-angst dramedies who just don't need, you know, plot. (JACOB LICHTY)
