The Houston Blacklight List
The drinking destination of the summer has arrived: Mariah and Thomas Pisha-Duffly, the dynamic duo who brought you Gado Gado List  and Oma's Hideaway List opened the Houston Blacklight, a cheeky vintage-inspired bar with "a mashup of Atomic Era fantasy and rough-edged elegance," in the former Night Light Lounge List space on Wednesday. Get ready for French onion instant ramen, shrimp cocktail with sambal terasi, Jell-O shot bundt cakes, and other inspired menu items.

FUTURE OPENINGS

Caro Amico List
The beloved Italian restaurant, which opened in 1949 and was one of the first places to serve pizza in the Portland area, will reopen sometime in August after a nearly three-year-long hiatus due to a fire.

Silk Road List
Bridgetown Bites reports that a new bar called Silk Road, which appears to be owned by the team behind LULU List and Jarana List , is set to open in the Pearl District. An opening date has not yet been announced.

The Turning Peel List
Candy Yiu, co-owner of the erstwhile Malka List , plans to open a pizzeria specializing in sourdough pies piled with seasonal produce in the former restaurant space.

Wild Thing List
This plant-based grain bowl shop on NE Alberta Street, launched by Arden List owner Kelsey Glasser and former Sweedeedee List chef Sam Smith in November 2021, closes after service today. The business's Instagram announcement read, "We have loved this space and sharing our veggie-forward foods with the community. We hope you can join us for one last bowl, smoothie, or snack before we go."

Pearl District Beer and Arts Fest Past Event List
Since Oregon Brewers Festival has unfortunately been cancelled this year, Backwoods Brewing Company and Deschutes Brewery have teamed up to throw their own DIY brewfest near the traditional brewery blocks, where craft brewing in the Pacific Northwest got its start. Browse sips from over 20 of the region's most sought-after breweries and ciders, including Ecliptic, Von Ebert, Reverend Nat's, Level Beer, Great Notion, Steeplejack, and more. Plus, peruse work and live demos from local artists, shop goods from local vendors, and groove to live music from local bands.

Hapa Barkada Island Block Party Past Event List
The Hawaiian food truck Hapa Howie's and the Filipino pop-up BarkadaPDX are throwing a party to celebrate the upcoming debut of their highly anticipated brick-and-mortar restaurant Hapa Barkada (which, adorably, means "a mix of best friends") this weekend, and if you're a fan of island comfort food and old-school hip-hop and R&B, it's not to be missed. Stuff your face with staples like lumpia, musubi, and "Da Ultimate Hapa Barkada Pork mix plate" (featuring twice-cooked pork belly adobo and smoky kalua pork) and groove to vinyl jams from DJs Wicked, Chaos, and Ozroc. StarChefs Rising Stars Restaurant Week Past Event List
The restaurant industry mag StarChefs is putting the spotlight on the up-and-coming culinary luminaries of Portland with its Rising Stars Restaurant Week. The class of 2023 includes names such as Jose Camarena of República, Kyle Christy and Jessie Manning of Street Disco, John Denison of St. Jack, Dana Francisco of Canard, Richard Văn Lê of Matta, Taylor Manning and Siobhan Speirits of Cafe Olli, Anna Buxton of Steeplejack Brewing, and many more. Dine at any of the participating restaurants and share an Instagram story or post for a chance to win a $100 gift card. Plus, hit up "bonus stops" Cafe Rowan and La Moule—for every dish sold at these two locations, StarChefs will donate $3 to Feed The Mass, which fights food insecurity and food waste.
