Sequoiadendron giganteum are the best if you're in need of a quick way to cower before nature's majesty. There's a giant sequoia in my neighborhood that I frequently walk by just so I can stare up into its massive canopy of branches and scaled leaves—it's also the perfect size for tree-hugging. Save the Giants Park understands the power of this species; the park was created in honor of the Portland community members who came together in 2016 to save three giant sequoia trees from being cut down. Each year, the trees are strung with twinkle lights (donated by local hardware stores) to celebrate the power of collective action, and the glow is visible from miles away. Head to Eastmoreland, where the park is tucked within a residential neighborhood, for the full effect.
